Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System Installation - 2018 Ford Edge

Hello, neighbors. It's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look and installing the Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Proportional Braking System on a 2018 Ford Edge. There's five main components when flat towing your vehicle. First one on the vehicle side is gonna be the base plate and the base plate attaches to the frame of the vehicle and creates a solid attachment point for your towbar to connect to. And our towbar being the connection point between the base plate and the hitch on the RV is how your vehicle actually goes down the road. Now with that, in case of an accidental disconnect, you are gonna have some safety cables that attach to your safety chain loops here that run from the hitch to the base plate.

Hi, I'm Shane with etrailer.com. Today. I'm going to be going over the five main components for a flat tow setup on your 2018 Ford edge. We're going to have our braking system, our tow bar our safety cables, our wiring and our base plate. Now in the 2018 Ford edge, when it's being flat-towed, it requires a key to be in the on position. When the keys in the on position, while it's being flat-towed, it could potentially run your battery down.

Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit Installation - 2018 Ford Edge

We're gonna have two wires that come off of it. Uh, we're gonna have to run both of them out through the grommet and the firewall, so what I did is I used the airline tube for my breaking system when I was installing it to push that lines through there. You're gonna have a red and a green wire that come in your kit.

Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System Installation - 2017 Ford Edge

Shane: Hi I'm Shane with etrailer.com. Today I'm going to walk with you how I installed the Brake Buddy Select 3 portable supplemental braking system on your 2017 Ford Edge. A braking system is going to be required by law in any vehicle being flat-towed. It's going to be one of the main components to getting your vehicle set up to be flat towed behind your RV. The difference between a portable system or transferable system and a permanent install is a permanent install is going to stay on the vehicle. With the portable transferable system, if you decide to buy another car, that system can be taken and used in that other car once it's set up to be flat-towed.This is what our Brake Buddy is going to look like when it's installed on our vehicle, it's going to sit in the driver's side floorboard, it's going to attach to our brake pedal with a clamp.

SMI Air Force One Braking System Installation - 2017 Ford Edge

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Ford Edge Sport in conjunction with our 2013 Freightliner Renegade RV, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the SMI Air force One supplemental braking system, part number SM99243. The SMI Air force One, what it's going to do it's going to provide a proportional braking system to your Ford Edge while being towed. The reason that's important is while you are flat towing you don't want to rely solely on the brakes of your RV to slow down your towed vehicle. So how this is going to work is when you hit the brakes in your RV, it's going to apply the same amount of force in our towed vehicle. This system's also going to come with an indicator light, that's going to come on when the brakes are applied in your towed vehicle. Which you can monitor through the rear camera on your RV. Just to make sure that everything is working as it should. The Air Force One is going to require air to operate the actuator connected to our brake pedal.

SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Braking System Installation - 2015 Ford Edge

Today on our 2015 Ford Edge, we're going to show you how to install the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO. This is a proportional supplemental braking system with part number SM99251. Now, as you can see, we've got the fascia removed from our car. That's part of the base plate installation, and this is going to help us out a lot in installing the SMI. This is going to allow us to route our wires a little bit easier. It gives us a little more room to get in here; we won't be leaning over our bumper and things like that. For our initial step, what we want to do is get the SMI mounted.

SMI Air Force One Braking System Installation - 2014 Ford Edge

Hi, I'm Shane 00:00:01 with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at showing you how we installed the Demco Air Force One braking system on our 2014 Ford Edge. What the braking system's going to do, it's going to give you a brake system in the car while it's being flat towed, so you don't have to rely on the brakes from the RV to slow down both vehicles. With the Air Force One, it relies on air pressure from the RV. It's going to send the air pressure when you apply the brakes in the RV. It's going to send in the air pressure through this line through an operating unit that is mounted inside the vehicle. An air line tube is ran inside to a cylinder that is mounted on the brake pedal arm.

Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit Installation - 2014 Ford Edge

Speaker 1: Today on our 2014 Ford Edge, we'll be having a look at, and installing the Road Master Brake Light Relay Kit from Tow Vehicles. Part number RN-88400.So, when we don't have a brake light relay installed on our towed vehicle, when we are towing it behind our motor home, and our turn signal is on, and then our breaks are depressed, we have the issue of our brake lights coming on, on our towed vehicle overriding the turn signal from our motor home. Now, with the brake light relay installed and operating, when we step on the brakes on our RV with our turn signal on, our brake signal does not override the turn signal function when the brakes are applied inside of our towed vehicles with the supplemental braking system. Now that we've gone over some features, we'll show you how to get it installed. To begin our install, we find ourselves underneath the hood of our Edge on the driver's side near our battery. This brown wire here that I have in my hand is a wire that we passed through our firewall in a grommet behind our battery. If you remove your battery, you have easy access to this grommet.

This is our air cylinder, which is clamped to our brake pedal, and is attached to our vehicle's firewall via a cable.

Speaker 1: Today on this 2011 Ford Edge, we'll be having a look at and showing you how to install the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for towed vehicles, part number RM-88400. Now that we've gone over some features, we'll see how to get it installed. To begin our install, we need to locate our vehicle's brake light switch. We will find that on the driver's side of our vehicle, underneath the dash connected to our brake pedal. Okay, this right here is our brake light switch. Now, we need to determine which wire coming off of our brake light switch is the cold side and what that means is that we only have power flowing through it when the brake pedal is depressed. Now, you wanna check this with a multimeter.

SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Braking System Installation - 2008 Ford Edge

Speaker 1: Today, on our 2008 Ford Edge, we're going to take a look at and also show you how to install the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO. This is a proportional, supplemental braking system with part number SM99251. The Stay-IN-Play DUO is an excellent solution for braking power in your towed vehicle. This helps us to stay in compliance with any state laws and also really helps getting everything slowed down in emergency situations. This proportional system ties directly into the vacuum system in the vehicle so you get full braking power applied to the brakes in proportion, or at the same speed in which you are trying to slow down your RV. So, for your standard slow speed stops, it will have that kind of braking effect in our car.

Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit Installation - 2008 Ford Edge

Host: Today on our 2008 Ford Edge, we're going to take a look at, and show you how to install the Road Masters Brake Light Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles. Part number is RM-88400.Now, this brake light relay is required on the Ford Edge because when the braking system in your towed vehicle presses the brakes, that signal will override the blinker signal that you have coming from your motor home. This means while you're making a turn and braking at the same time, your lights are not functioning properly without it. With this system install, we're going to have an automatic way to shut that signal off going to the brake lights. Now, the relay harness that we have here wires directly in line with the brake light switch. The green wire is going to face our switch, the black wire is going to face our bulb, and then with the ignition on, it's going to close the relay so that it can send that signal. To access the cold side wire, we need to get into the panel here underneath the steering wheel, and to remove the panel, we've got two 10mm screws to take out here. Now, with those removed, we want to pull out.
